EXTERNAL GRINDING WHEELS

External grinding wheels are used for grinding the outer surface of cylindrical workpieces that have a constant diameter. These wheels are usually made of aluminum oxide or silicon carbide abrasive grains, and they come in various shapes and sizes depending on the application.

The external grinding process involves mounting the workpiece on a centerless or cylindrical grinding machine, and the grinding wheel rotates on the outer surface of the workpiece. The grinding wheel removes the material from the workpiece, and the resulting shape and finish are determined by the grit size and type of abrasive used in the wheel.

External grinding wheels are used in a variety of industries, such as automotive, aerospace, and medical device manufacturing. They can be used for grinding parts such as shafts, spindles, and rods. These wheels can be dressed to maintain their shape and cutting ability, and they are designed to withstand high-speed rotation without breaking or losing their shape.
